NEWPORT / 2 p.m. -- Singer Tony Bennett and a performance conducted by Bill Cosby highlight this year's JVC Jazz Festival-Newport on Aug. 9-11, according to a schedule announced today.
Bennett will launch the Festival Friday night with one long set beginning at 8:15 p.m. on the lawn of the Newport Casino at the International Tennis Hall of Fame, 194 Bellevue Ave.
The performance marks a return to the festival by Bennett, who had the honor of kicking off the show in 1991 from the same elegant location.
On Saturday and Sunday the festival moves to Fort Adams State Park.
Tickets will be available at 10 a.m. tomorrow through a one-day Internet PreSale (http://www.festivalproductions.net/) through TicketWeb and at the Festival office, 770 Aquidneck Ave., Middletown, from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m.
After tomorrow, tickets may be ordered by phone at 866-468-7619; by mail, JVC Jazz Festival-Newport, P.O. Box 605, Newport, R.I. 02840, and at Ticketweb.com. There is a handling charge of $4 per order.
Prices are $85, $65, $50 and $30 for Friday night's performance. There will be reserved seating at the Saturday and Sunday performances -- $75, $65 -- in a no-cooler, no-blanket zone. General admission is $48 in advance and $53 at the gate, if any are left; children ages 2-12 are $5, free under 2. Parking is $6.
