Between the JVC Jazz Festival in June and the third season of HARLEM IN THE HIMALAYAS in September, the Rubin Museum of Art is presenting a showcase performance under the heading Jazz With Altitude. On August 10, Doc Cheatham's grandson Theo Croker (trumpet) and his Quintet will make their debut. As is customary at RMA, Croker will create new compositions in response to the themes of the Himalayan art at the Museum. The performance will be conducted without amplification in a 137-seat cherry wood-lined room.

Friday, August 10
Theo Croker Quintet
7:00 p.m.
Theo Croker (trumpet), Stantawn Kendrick (tenor sax), Sullivan Fortner (piano), Chris Mees (bass), Kassa Overall (drums)

At 21 years old, Theo Croker has already distinguished himself as a vital force in the jazz community. As the grandson of jazz trumpet legend Doc Cheatham, the legacy Croker carries is profoundly felt when he plays. His musicianship possesses a depth that is usually achieved only through a lifetime's worth of experience.

Happy Hour at the Museum's K2 Lounge is from 6:00-7:00 p.m.

Tickets are $15 and can be purchased in advance by calling
212.620.5000 ext. 344.
Tickets can also be purchased at the door. Rubin Museum of Art, 150 West 17th Street, NYC 10011
