The Jazz Club Tour, sponsored by the Jazz Institute of Chicago, is an annual event that rings in the Chicago Jazz Festival, one of the most popular music festivals in the city. This year, the celebration takes place on Wednesday, August 28 from 6pm until 11:30pm with fourteen venues, including The Old Town School of Folk Music, participating in this great jazz music event. Tickets are $17 in advance and $20 day of the tour with free bus transportation included. For those planning on attending only the show at the Old Town School of Folk Music, tickets are ONLY $10.00 and are general admission. These tickets can be purchased the evening of the show at the Old Town School box office.
Performing at the Old Town School of Folk Music are vocalist Jackie Allen, backed by the Paul Wertico Trio; guitar virtuoso Bobby Broom with his trio, and singer Maggie Brown. Radio sponsors for this event are WDCB, 90.9FM and WBEE, AM 1570.
About the jazz artists performing at the Old Town School of Folk Music: Jackie Allen: This Chicago-based vocalist is recognized for her musicality and inventiveness in composing emotionally-charged originals as well as framing and interpreting standards in a way that calls forth the heart and soul of a song. Her strength is presenting a powerful balance of words, music, storytelling, and spontaneity. She has toured internationally, performing at The North Sea Jazz Festival in the Netherlands, the International Bass Bash in Brazil, and dates in Hong Kong, Beijing, and Europe. This evening the Paul Wertico Trio will back Ms. Allen. The Old Town School of Folk Music is proud to have Ms. Allen as a member of its faculty.
Paul Wertico Trio: Chicago native Paul Wertico has been playing the drums for over 30 years.
