The Jazz Record Center announces an important auction of modern jazz records

Beginning April 1, 2002, the Jazz Record Center will conduct a series of internet auctions of over 2,000 highly collectable instrumental and vocal 10” and 12” LPs, EPs and 45s that have never been available for sale to the public. Each two-week auction will consist of approximately 200 records. Subsequent auctions will be held in 6-week intervals. 99% of the records will be guaranteed first pressings in near-new or better condition. The first auction will consist of 12” LPs alphabetically listed from Pepper Adams to Kenny Dorham.

Labels will include Blue Note, Candid, Clef, Debut, Dial, New Jazz, Norgran, Prestige, Riverside, Transition and many more. Some of the most famous and sought-after recordings that will be auctioned include: Jackie McLean on Ad Lib Donald Byrd on Transition Tina Brooks on Blue Note, Sonny Rollins/Saxophone Colossus and Tommy Flanagan/Overseas on Prestige, Charlie Parker on Dial, plus many unusual offerings, such as; an unissued prototype cover for Charlie Parker’s 10“ Dial 201, reference acetates of unissued Ornette Coleman recordings from his ESP and Blue Note releases, a sealed copy of Norman Granz’ Jazz Scene in its original shipping case, an original reference acetate of Dizzy Gillespie’s Dial 1001, an original set of 16” Voice of America transcriptions of the l949 Carnegie Hall concert starring Charlie Parker, Lennie Tristano, Stan Kenton and Art Tatum, an acetate of an unissued complete Miles Davis broadcast from l951, with Sonny Rollins and J.J. Johnson.

The auctions will also include many original, rare foreign recordings by Lars Gullin, Tubby Hayes, Barney Wilen and others.
