After completing their “Southern Tour” and performing on a Royal Caribbean cruise to the Bahamas last spring, the Jazz Ensemble heads for Ann Arbor on Monday, Sept 29, to The Firefly Club, located at 637 S. Main in Ann Arbor.
Voted by Downbeat magazine as one of the 100 Great Jazz Clubs of the World in 2007, the Firefly is a unique place where people are able to go just to listen to music. It has been moved to a new location as well as revamped, which has greatly improved the quality of the atmosphere. “The bar is separated by glass so that smoke stays in that area. This way everyone gets to enjoy themselves, whether they are there for the music or just a night out,” stated music professor James Ball, the ensemble's director.
The manager has also been working on getting groups to come in every week to play, and so far it has worked well. The Jazz Ensemble will be performing on Monday along with the renowned Paul Keller Orchestra, a group that plays every Monday night.
