The Blue Note Presents The Oscar Peterson Quartet

One of the world's most celebrated jazz pianists, Oscar Peterson, returns to the Blue Note with the Oscar Peterson Quartet.

Peterson has dazzled the world with his enormous talent and dexterity for over 50 years. He has collaborated with and come to know many of jazz's greatest contributors, including Ella Fitzgerald, Dizzy Gillespie, Count Basie, Nat King Cole, Louis Armstrong, Duke Ellington, Stan Getz and Charlie Parker. And he cites Teddy Williams, Nat King Cole, James P. Johnson and the legendary Art Tatum as his main influences.

In 1942, Peterson joined the Johnny Holmes Orchestra playing dance music around Montreal, Canada. His career got a jump start when producer Norman Granz invited Peterson to play as a surprise guest at the Carnegie Hall performance of his Jazz at the Philharmonic. Peterson played mainly with bassist Ray Brown as a duo, but soon changed the format to a trio. In the early 1960's the Oscar Peterson Trio faced one of the industry's most grueling recording and touring schedules that resulted in the production of seven studio and four live albums within one single year (1962).

In recent years, Peterson is devoting more time to composition. In 1990 he was the recipient of a Grammy Award for Best Jazz Group Instrumental Performance for “The Legendary Oscar Peterson Trio: Live at the Blue Note." In 1997 he was inducted in the International Jazz Hall of Fame and, in the same year, he won a Grammy Award for Lifetime Achievement.
