From its inception, the Pico Rivera Stage Band acquired a reputation for quality performances. This is attested to by the fact that the group has appeared for thirteen consecutive years in the Battle of the Bands" at the Hollywood Bowl. Here, six first place trophies have been collected along with the honor of being named sweepstakes winner in 1974. There have been other trophies, including the top award from the 1966 Cerritos College Jazz Festival and blue ribbon at the 1968 South Western Musical Festival in Long Beach. The Stage Band has performed numerous times at the Los Angeles County Fair, and in jazz concerts at Disneyland, plus television performances on ABC, NBC (Weekend in LA), and the CBS TV show, This Morning Show. The band has also received airplay on jazz stations nation-wide, as well as locally on FM88 KKJZ.
Graduates of the band have gone on to play with Stan Kenton, Buddy Rich, Woody Herman, Harry James, Blood, Sweat and Tears, Louie Bellson, Poncho Sanchez and many others.
