ROY HARGROVE'S CUSTOM JAZZ TRUMPET STOLEN FROM SCULLERS JAZZ CLUB IS RETURNED!!!
What followed was a media explosion. The internet had the story running on multiple websites. Newspapers ran several pieces locally. National magazines have been calling in. Roy Hargrove's manager had e-mails, calls and faxes from around the world. A woman called Scullers describing a young man whom she had seen pick up the trumpet and exclaim, Oh Wow, look at this!"
Over the holiday weekend the DoubleTree Guest Suites Hotel received a call [Sunday, May 28] from a man who said that a friend" had taken ROY HARGROVE's trumpet from Scullers on May 19 and that, when he saw the stories on the TV news, he felt bad about it. The caller then said that he had just left the trumpet in a plastic bag in the bushes in front of the hotel and wanted to make sure the hotel would retrieve it. The caller said that he wasn't interested in the $500.00 reward. The caller called back again, just to make sure that the hotel had the trumpet. The trumpet was taken in by hotel staff and locked in one of the management offices over the weekend.
Hargrove's manager has been notified of the return of the trumpet and will inform Scullers Jazz Club later today about possibly coming to Boston on Thursday, June 1 with Roy himself, to pick up the trumpet. Hargrove may sit in" with The Ray Brown Trio, who will be appearing at the club Thursday through Saturday with vocalist Marlena Shaw.
