Romero's "Cuban Jazz Funk" in Concert

Composer and pianist Miguel and his 5 piece ensemble perform original “Cuban Jazz Funk" at Pellissippi State Technical Community College in Knoxville, Tennessee on Saturday, March 9, 2002,at 8 p.m. in the Performing Arts Center of the Pellissippi Campus on Hardin Valley Road.

Born in Cuba, Romero comes from a long line of musicians who played at the Club Tropicana in Havana. Romero is in the new breed of 21st century composers and is a pioneer of Nu Cuban. Romero has built a very tight group that can swing with funky accent, jamming clave and fusion groove. Romero performed at 2001 Montreux Jazz Festival and was a panelist on the"NY to Havana, Nonstop" seminar at the 2002 International Association of Jazz Educators “NY to Havana, Nonstop” Seminar. Romero recieved a REMIX Composers Grant from the American Composers Forum for work at the Boys and Girls Club.
