Tenor saxophonist Richard Elliot has announced a number of concert appearances for the month of September, 2001. These dates are in support of Crush (GRP Records), his brand-new recording. Crush showcases Elliot's trademark style-contemporary jazz with a heavy soul and R&B groove.
The ten tracks on Crush include the original compositions Still Sweet On You," Brand New Love Affair" (with vocals by Sue Ann Carwell), and the title track. Highlights include Elliot's rendition of the Junior Walker and the All Stars classic Shotgun," with GRP labelmate Jeff Golub on guitar, and If I Kissed You," which features vocals by Jonathan Butler.
One of the founders of the instrumental pop movement that launched the NAC radio format, Elliot has been a leading star in the contemporary jazz genre for over 15 years. His most recent recording, Chill Factor, had three different singles reach the #1 spot on the contemporary jazz radio charts.
Richard Elliot began his career touring and recording with Smokey Robinson, The Temptations, the Pointer Sisters, and Natalie Cole. He later worked with the contemporary jazz outfit The Yellowjackets, but truly established himself as a great tenor sax player with the famed Tower of Power horn section.
Guitarist Marc Antoine will open for Elliot on several of these appearances. Antoine's new album is Cruisin' (GRP Records), which features the #1 single Mas Que Nada."
