About the group:
The unique sound of the Rafi Malkiel Quintet combines a variety of exotic styles and rhythms which the band members bring from their international origins and experience. Israeli born trombone and euphonium player Rafi Malkiel has been touring with top Cuban, Colombian and Puerto-Rican bands for more than ten years. Active in the New York City jazz and world music scenes, their repertoire includes original compositions by Rafi Malkiel and the members of the band as well as jazz standards arranged with Afro-Caribbean flavors. Improvising over an ecstatic groove their acoustic music is always fresh and surprising.
The Quintet has performed in many prestigious venues, including The Corcoran Gallery of Art in Washington D.C., The Kimmel Center for the Performing Arts in Philadelphia, The 92nd Street Y in New York City.
Our audience was delighted by your performance and absolutely raved about the concert"--Janet W. Solinger, Vice President, Corcoran Gallery of Art, 12/4/2004.
