Production begins on July 1, 2007 with location shoots in Chicago, New York and Los Angeles and will be released during the holiday season of 2007. The movie will show her life from child to stardom, her marriages to seven husbands, her role as a mother and the triumphs and tragedies that made her one the most gifted and inspired vocalist in American history.
Jes-Us Executive Producer Sharon Nelson sums up why she wanted to do this film: She is one of my favorite female singers. I am a composer and pianist and film producer, so who else but Dinah Washington could I want to tell her life story and share her music with the world."
Washington's music and style are rooted in jazz, blues and r&b, which still have an impact on music heard today. During the highs and lows of her career of the 1940s, 1950s and 1960s, Dinah always had her music and managed to bring her soul to whatever she did. Her death of an accidental overdose of diet pills mixed with alcohol at the early age of 39 is a cautionary tale to those who came behind her and to those who love her.
With a star cast, inspired director and with respect and reverence to this legendary artist, Queen Dinah will pay tribute to her memory, her music and her life. The film will draw new and old fans closer to Dinah Washington.
