Father's day is rapidly approaching. Usually, the gifts given are ties and underwear. But it doesn't have to be. At least not according to pianist and online teacher Edward Weiss.

Weiss owns and operates a website that teaches adults how to create their own music at the piano. And not just any music, but something called 'new age'—a style that's been around for over 25 years and that many people really like.

When asked why so people take his course, Weiss has this to say:

“I think they appreciate the idea of just sitting down at the piano and playing what they feel. That's not to say other styles aren't relevant, but I've heard so many nice things from folks about my piano course. The 'new age' style of playing is very free-flowing and modern. It's something many adults would like to be able to do."

The online piano course Weiss runs now has over 100 comprehensive lessons and has been going strong now for over 10 years. Students can access the lessons anytime they want and are also offered the opportunity to 'chat' and communicate with their online instructor.

Weiss remarks:

“Everything is slowly but surely moving online. Even piano lessons. More and more people are seeking information and instruction via the web and that makes sense since it's so convenient. Students can email me with questions and visit the online forum where others in the course can discuss the lessons. All in all, it's a great alternative to taking 'live' lessons.

Weiss is currently offering a free piano lesson 'Summer Morning' that promises to teach anyone how to improvise. A free book 'Free to be Creative at the Piano ' is also available at Weiss's website Piano Lessons by Quiescence Music
