The handsome TV star served as executive producer for jazz singer Tamela D’Amico’s new album, “Got A Little Story,” which came out April 14th.
“I like most music,” says Krause, who plays a little guitar but had never thought about producing an album until he called D’Amico to wish her happy birthday. “He asked me about my album, and I said that’s the last thing I wanted to talk about,” says D’Amico, who only hours before had learned that funding for her record had been delayed. Not to worry.
Krause offered to take over as executive producer. “[His enthusiasm] was such a gift,” says D’Amico. “I feel very fortunate.
D’Amico’s name should sound familiar. She is an actress, singer, and filmmaker, as well as a former On the Lot contestant and longtime friend of Krause. “Tamela was the receptionist for a manager with whom I briefly worked,” he tells Fancast. “She always seemed too bright to be sitting behind that desk. Years later at a ‘Six Feet Under’ screening, she said she was singing and invited me to a gig in Santa Monica,” says Krause, who was impressed and supportive when he heard she was thinking about doing a jazz album.
D’Amico recorded her debut album at Capitol Records. Krause left the actual music production to the pros, but says he “stopped by for a listen during the mix.” D’Amico remembers Krause’s visit to the studio as nerve-wracking, but says he seemed more than pleased with the album’s direction. “[Peter] really let us go off and do what we needed to do. I think we played for him, [the track] ‘We Are in Love,’ first, and he just turned around and was like ‘Oh my God,’ because I don’t really think he knew what he was going to get,” D’Amico says.
What he got was an album that’s not only unique, but also well- received by the jazz community. AllAboutJazz.com called D’Amico, “a young lady oozing with talent,” who makes “her musical debut in style, offering Billie-Holiday-like vocals.” It’s a type of music that clearly suits D’Amico’s tastes and talents. “The genre is a small niche and I wanted to come out of the box really strong…I want everyone to see that this stuff is sexy, and that it stands the test of time,” she says. While Krause doesn’t have any current plans to produce another album, he won’t say never. “Perhaps in the future,” he says.
