New York Artist David Dalessandro Using jazz as his inspiration, this New York artist paints with bright colors and strong gesture. These paintings look great in black frames. The large paintings are great as the focal point of any interior. This painter attended one of the most prominent art schools in New York, The New York Studio school of Painting, Drawing & Sculpture. Paul Georges, Philip Guston, Esteban Vicente, and Mercedes Matter were amoung the 1st & 2nd generation Abstract Expressionist painters that Dalessandro studied with. ARTIST'S STATEMENT The world exists in the round. Painting and drawing exist in the flat. In painting, my interest lies in transcribing the round into flat. The dynamic interaction between the shapes on the surface, and the spatial positions these shapes represent, sets up a tension which gives life to the work. I use jazz musicians as my subject for two reasons; I like jazz. Secondly, to embody the correlation of the elements of the composition, to the drive and energy of the music.
