Odean Pope, renowned tenor saxophonist has shared his gift of playing passionate improvisation, tough original music full of funk and swing, and precise ensembles with audiences from world festivals to concert halls and clubs. Mr. Pope first toured with the legendary drummer Max Roach in 1967 and then again in 1979 until the present time. Also in 1979, Mr. Pope cultivated his own Saxophone Choir consisting of nine saxophones, piano, bass and drums. The Saxophone Choir has toured West Germany, and performed in Holland's North Sea Jazz Festival, where Pope was selected as the number one saxophonist among such stellar contemporaries as Archie Shepp, Pharoah Sanders, George Coleman and Von Freeman. Mr. Pope's discography includes: seven Max Roach led records, three recordings by the Choir, The Saxophone Shop, The Ponderer (Soul Note) and Epitome (Soul Note) and several trio records - Ninety-Six (Enja), EBIOTO (Knitting Factory), Out for a Walk (Moers Music), Almost Like Me (Moers Music).
