Over the next May Bank Holiday weekend the Third “Norwich Jazz Party” with take place at the Holiday Inn at Norwich International Airport.Norwich, Norfolk, U.K.

The event will bring together twenty-nine top jazz musicians from both sides of the Atlantic who will provide over 26 hours of the best swinging jazz. The music will commence at 3pm on Saturday 2nd May and continue through until late in the evening of Monday 4th May.

The format will follow the formula adopted at Jazz Parties all over the world which has proved so successful at the past two Norwich events. Groups of musicians will be put together to perform themed sets of varying length under the nominal leadership of one player. The decisions as to the themes for the music sets and make-up of the bands are very much in the hands of the musicians themselves. Final decisions as to the programme will not be made until a couple of weeks before the event.

The past two years have seen ‘big band’ sets dedicated to the music of Benny Goodman and Allan Ganley as well as various size bands performing the music of Benny Carter, Thad Jones, Johnny Hodges, John Kirby and Duke Ellington.

The musicians performing this year are a selection from those who have travelled to Norwich before and have established themselves a considerable following such as, from the USA, Howard Alden, Ken Peplowski, Scott Robinson, Scott Hamilton and others, plus, from closer to home, Alan Barnes, Enrico Tomasso, Karen Sharp and Dave Green, Sir John Dankworth, Steve Brown, etc.

Coupled with these returning players there will be ‘newcomers’ including the trombonist John Allred, trumpeter Warren Vache, pianist Tardo Hammer, and guitarist Bucky Pizzarelli from USA and vocalist Elaine Delmar, vibes player and drummer Jim Hart, and drummer Bobby Worth from the UK.

The Norwich Jazz Party is now the only event of it’s kind in the UK and possibly in Europe. The audience will be drawn from all over the country as well as further afield with bookings already taken from Germany, Norway, Belgium, and France. The event receives no funding or financial support and is dependent on ticket sales to ensure it continued existence.
