New CD by Jazz Steel Pannist Gary Gibson

Seattle steel drummer/percussionist Gary Gibson has just released his second CD, titled CounterMelodies. Comprised of ten original compositions in a wide range of styles, the CD also features the work of prominent Northwest jazz musicians Rich Cole (tenor sax), Hans Teuber (clarinet), Richard Warner (flutes and soprano sax), Marco de Carvalho (guitar), Doug Miller (acoustic bass), David Pascal (electric bass), and Jeff busch (Brazilian percussion).

Gibson's style on the steel pan is unique. While deeply rooted in the rich tradition of bebop and cool/Westcoast jazz musicians, his kinship with the native style of the pan, calypso, is undeniable. This CD, along with his first ("My Two Cents"), both released independently, have established him as a newcreative force in the genre. See and hear demos at:
