Jamaica's first lady of jazz Myrna Hague lends her distinctive vocal styling to the Ward Theatre Foundation fundraiser 'Jazz for the Ward' set for Sunday, March 6, 2011 at the Institute of Jamaica in Kingston.

Under the distinguished patronage of Mexican Ambassador Her Excellency Leonora Rueda, the jazz concert features accomplished musicians Nicholas Laraque on flute, tenor and alto saxophones, Dr. Carol Ball on piano accompanying the multi-talented jazz vocalist, Myrna Hague.

The architectural elegant Ward Theatre was built in 1912 in downtown Kingston becoming the symbol of Jamaica's rich cultural heritage. Since, its stage has accommodated countless Jamaicans and overseas icons including world famous Sir Willard White, the luminous Louise Bennett, comedic genius of Gilbert and Sullivan, renowned organ virtuoso Diane Bish, Marian Anderson, Paul Robeson, Arthur Rubinstein.

But, the imposing structure was severely damaged August 2007 by Hurricane Dean that traveled along Jamaican south coast. A series of fund-raising events organized by The Ward Theatre Foundation is a systematic approach to fully restore the Jamaica national treasure.

Ambassador Rueda's involvement is symbolic of the strong cultural ties existing between Jamaica and Mexico.
