Since the launch of Jazzlives.org, the Internet service for Jazz fans, we have received a number of questions concerning the availability and reliability of our service. We figured that there were probably more of you out there with questions, so we decided to try and answer some of them for you. If you have additional questions, please feel free to contact us toll free during regular business hours at 877-605-6500 or 24/7 at 800-JAZZ-LIV (800-529-9548) or via the web at http://www.veloxonline.com/aaj/contact.htm.

Q: First and foremost, how does the WorldCom problem affect Jazzlives.org, as you are on the UUNet network?

A: Jazzlives.org is a redundant product and employs back-up networks in the event of primary network failure. However, we chose the UUNet network because it is the largest and most secure network in the country, and one of the top in the world. Throughout the WorldCom issue, the one thing that has remained stable and whole has been the UUNet side of the company. Over 70% of all e-mails in the US travel on this network, and it is used by AOL, EarthLink, MSN and most other major ISPs. If it were to go down, the whole country would go into an Internet crisis, and government and major businesses wont let this happen. Even if WorldCom were forced to declare bankruptcy and fold, the UUNet network will most assuredly be purchased and continued by another company, and will stay up and strong, as will our service.

But dont just believe us, check out what some of the major newspapers are saying about the situation:

Q: Tell me again why I should sign up for Jazzlives.org? I have AOL, and while I dont love it, why should I switch to something else? Is it really any better?

A: Our subscribers benefit from quality, around the clock, customer service, multiple e-mail addresses, Instant Messenger and other free software, up-to-date news and weather, secure files and online transactions. In addition, they have the opportunity to get multiple e-mail addresses that say something about who they are and what they love, not to mention the fact that they can be [email protected], rather than [email protected], because Jazzlives.org is not an oversubscribed ISP. Unlike other ISPs, we dont force you to jump though hoops to get to the Internet. We give you immediate, direct access.

Q: The website mentions something about a custom Jazzlives.org browser with jazz presets what does this mean?

A: When you download the Jazzlives.org software from either the site or a CD, you download a customized version of Internet Explorer 6.0. It is still Internet Explorer, and acts just like regular Internet Explorer. The only difference is that the “favorites" folder has been expanded to include links to Jazz news and information resources, and the homepage is set to All About Jazz. If you would prefer that AAJ not be your home page, you can always change it.

Q: How can I access my email? What if I am traveling?

A: You can access your e-mail either through our webmail program or through Outlook '98, Outlook Express 5.5 or greater, and Eudora 5.01 and greater (for Jazzlives.org accounts only). MAC Users can use Outlook Express 5.02 and Netscape 4.7 and greater. If you are traveling with your computer, local dial-up numbers are available throughout the contiguous 48 United States. You may access dial-up in most countries worldwide for an additional fee that is charged by the minute. If you don't have your computer with you, web mail is available and is accessed by launching a browser while connected to the Internet and proceeding to the online Jazzlives.org Support Center homepage. Enter your username and password and administer your mail account.

Q: Does Jazzlives.org offer its members the ability to create their own Web page(s)?

A: Yes! Each subscriber receives 10 MB of web space to create their own web page at no additional cost. Please contact Technical Support at 1-800-JAZZLIV (1-800-529-9548) for assistance.

Q: How much is Jazzlives.org a month?

A: $19.95

Q: How many minutes am I allowed per month? What if I go over my allotted time?

A:Your Jazzlives.org account allows for 150 hours per month. Beyond that, it's $1/hr throughout the continental US. According to Nielson//Net Ratings, the average Internet user is online for 16 hours a month. So for the great majority, 150 hours is more than enough.
