Miles Monday is a unique listening series devoted to the music of Miles Davis. We are entering our second year at Mo Pitkin's House of Satisfaction.
I'm not aware of anything like this," says Greg Masters, the host of the series. It's an opportunity for folks to relax in a comfortable lounge, sip a beverage, listen to Miles Davis music through a good sound system, and discuss Miles' music with like-minded fans and future fans. We play recorded music from every phase of Miles' ever- evolving career -- from bop to cool to Gil to modal to abandonment of AABA to electric fusion transcendence to pop to hip hop. And it's free.
Masters will be spinning from his extensive collection of standard and rare (bootleg) Miles Davis CDs, tapes and downloads.
Guests last year included Miles Davis re-issue producer and musician Bob Belden, Miles's son Gregory, Miles discographer and musician Enrico Merlin.
For 50 years, Miles was continually reinventing his sound, evolving, investigating, never standing still," says Masters, a music journalist who has written extensively on Miles. This series is a celebration of his glorious achievements. We might even work up to my Miles concert DVDs. Come listen and mingle with like-minded aficionados."
