Miles Davis on Film: Hosted by Davis biographer Quincy Troupe

In the first Jazz on Film of its 2001-02 season, Jazz at Lincoln Center (J@LC) will produce "Miles Davis on Film," on Wednesday, October 24, 2001 at 8pm in the Walter Reade Theater. The program will be hosted by poet and scholar Quincy Troupe, who co-wrote Miles Davis's provocative autobiography.

In the program, Mr. Troupe will examine many of the great trumpeter's appearances on film, including live performance footage, artist interviews, and documentary excerpts.

Quincy Troupe is professor of American and Caribbean Literature and Creative Writing at the University of California, San Diego. He is the creative force behind Artist on the Cutting Edge: Cross Fertilizations, an interdisciplinary, cross-cultural performance and literary series at the Museum of Contemporary Art, San Diego. Mr. Troupe has published many volumes of poetry, essays, articles and featured stories. He co-authored The Inside Story of TV's "Roots" in 1978 with David L. Wolper and wrote the definitive life story of legendary great Miles Davis titled Miles: The Autobiography, a book that won him the 1990 American Book Award. In the fall of 1998, Miles and Me: A Memoir of Miles was published by the University of California Press. His most recent volume of poetry is titled Avalanche. Mr. Troupe is a two-time heavyweight champion of poetry, an event sponsored by the World Poetry Bout of Taos, New Mexico. He lives in La Jolla with his wife and son.

Jazz at Lincoln Center is the world's largest not-for-profit arts organization dedicated to jazz.
