Marian McPartland's 85th Birthday Bash Brought Out The Stars To Birdland On March 21st

Norah Jones and Tony Bennett were just two of the music industry luminaries to grace the stage at New York City's venerable Birdland jazz club on Friday, March 21st to pay tribute to the legendary pianist Marian McPartland. Celebrating her 85th birthday, the indefatigable McPartland was onstage for the majority of the evening performing in duo, quartets and larger ensembles with many of her special guests.

With an opening tribute from South Carolina Educational Radio's Moss Bresnahan (SCETV has been the driving force behind “Marian McPartland's Piano Jazz", NPR's longest running cultural program) setting the tone for the evening, for the next four hours, the audience was treated to some of the jazz world's greatest stars in shining tribute to one of their brightest.

Pianist Bill Charlap opened the evening on solo piano with a medley of Dick Hyman's “Onyx Mood" and Irving Berlin
