JOHN COLTRANE'S A LOVE SUPREME GOES GOLD
John Coltrane's legendary recording A Love Supreme has achieved Gold status according to the Recording Industry Association of America. The certfication of this album, orginally released in 1965, marks the first time any of the influential saxophonist's recordings have achieved this honor.
Available since its release under several different catalog numbers (ABC 77, MCA 29017, MCA 5660, and currently GRP 155), A Love Supreme is a three-part suite, Acknowledgement," Resolution," and Pursuance/Psalm." The album features Coltrane on saxophone, McCoy Tyner on piano, Elvin Jones on drums, and Jimmy Garrison on bass.
Ron Goldstein, President of The Verve Music Group, commented on the certification: The timing of this great event could not be better as we are about to launch a series of Coltrane releases to celebrate what would have been his 75th birthday." He continued, And, in the wake of Diana Krall's recent platinum certification and the tremendous response to the Ken Burns JAZZ box set, it is further proof that great jazz music is alive and well."
This inspiring album, considered Trane's most personal work, will be included as part of The Verve Music Group's upcoming Desert Island Discs series, a campaign based on the idea of which records one would want if they were to be stranded on a desert island.
