Jazz Standard to Re-Open March 19

Founded in 1997, Jazz Standard was named “Best Jazz Club in New York" by New York magazine after just two short years as a nationally-booked jazz club on the New York scene. Several acclaimed artists had their first high profile extended engagements in New York there, including Jason Moran, Kurt Rosenwinkel, Stefon Harris, Avishai Cohen, Bill Charlap, Patricia Barber, Uri Caine, Maria Schneider, Jason Lindner, among others. Some artists who have made live recordings there include: Gary Bartz, Joanne Brackeen, Andre Previn with David Finck, Maria Schneider, and Archie Shepp with Roswell Rudd. In 2001, the club closed for renovations and to open a new restaurant upstairs.

On March 19th, 2002, Danny Meyer the highly-acclaimed New York restaurateur will re-open Jazz Standard in tandem with its new sister restaurant, a spirited barbecue joint called Blue Smoke.
