J&J Music announces the release of the new CD from the Jason Parker
: Five Leaves Left: A Tribute To Nick Drake.
The music will be released digitally on March 29th, with CD's to follow at the end of April on Seattle's Broken Time Records.
The JPQ chose to pay tribute to the legendary singer/songwriter by remaking his classic debut album song-for-song in their own unique style. I've been a fan of Drake's music for years," says Parker, This record is three years in the making and a dream come true for me. To be able to pay homage to these amazing songs by interpreting them with my band was an honor and a thrill." They tackle such classics as River Man," Time Has Told Me," Day Is Done" and more.
The JPQ consists of Parker on trumpet and flugelhorn, Josh Rawlings
on piano, Evan Flory- Barnes
on bass and D'Vonne Lewis
. Earshot jazz called them The next generation of Seattle Jazz," and their last album, No More, No Less"
received critical acclaim across the country.
On this album, they are joined by two special guests, Michele Khazak
on vocals and Cynthia Mullis
on sax. Of the guests Parker says, Cynthia has been playing with us regularly for a year and fits the group's aesthetic perfectly. Michele was the only vocalist I wanted for this project, as she is a huge Drake fan and I knew she'd approach these songs with the reverence the deserve."
The first single, Day Is Done," is available as a free download now at OneWorkingMusician.com
. The rest of the songs will be available as a pay-what- you-want" download on Tuesday, March 29th. For too long now," says Parker, we've told our fans what the music is worth to them. But only they can make that determination. I would rather people pay what they think it's worth and be satisfied. I trust that my fans will want to support me and put a fair value on the music."
