Social-networking site claims ability to control user information forever

Tens of thousands of Facebook users are protesting new policies that they say grant the social-networking site the ability to control their information forever, even after they cancel their accounts.

Facebook's new terms of use, updated Feb. 4, largely went unnoticed until the popular consumer rights advocacy blog Consumerist.com pointed out the changes Sunday.

Facebook Keeps Copies of All Your Information Forever

Facebook founder Mark Zuckerberg has responded to the privacy concerns raised in this post by Consumerist.

The post pointed out that a change Facebook made to its terms of service left the impression that the social network could keep and use copies of user content (e.g. photos, notes, and personal information) in perpetuity even if users removed the information and closed their accounts.

STOCKHOLM -- Prosecutors dropped half of the charges in the landmark trial of The Pirate Bay filesharing site Tuesday, leaving observers stunned and prompting questions about the government's preparedness in the long-awaited criminal proceeding.
