The Department of Music at The University of California, Berkeley, today announced two special fundraiser events for the Jazz and Improvised Music Fund (JIM). Wife of Grammy-Winning Jazz Star Grazed by Bullet

Prosecutors say an 81-year-old woman pulled a revolver from her fanny pack and tried to shoot the wife of a Grammy-winning jazz pianist near the elevator of their New York City condominium. Queens District Attorney Richard Brown says Maria Cartegena pulled out the gun Tuesday night and fired at the 73-year-old wife of Eddie Palmieri. The bullet grazed Iraida Palmieri's scalp. Singer Johnny Maestro Dies in Fla., Battled Cancer

Singer Johnny Maestro of the rock 'n' roll and doo-wop band The Brooklyn Bridge has died.

Original band member Les Cauchi says Maestro died late Wednesday in Florida. Maestro was 70 and had been battling cancer. His last residence was in Cape Coral, Fla. Maestro begin his career in the 1950s with The Crests, whose hits included “16 Candles." The Brooklyn Bridge was formed in 1968 by the merger of two other bands and continues to perform. Internet Agency Approves Domains in Native Scripts

Four countries and two territories have won preliminary approval to have Internet addresses written entirely in their native scripts as early as this summer.

However, proposals for Internet addresses that would say “China" and “Taiwan" in Chinese will require a few more months of technical review. The delay is not over political disputes, but rather because the Chinese language can be written in two ways -- using simplified and traditional scripts.
