He told Leno during Monday's taping of “Tonight" in Burbank, Calif., that he was ready for a career change of pace, but he didn't announce specific plans. Treme Recap: Just One Episode and Already More Jazz Than That Whole Ken Burns Documentary!

Source: Michael Ricci

You hear Treme, David Simon's new television series, before you see it. Over black, with title cards that read “New Orleans, Three Months Later," a trumpet sounds the staccato clarion call that traditionally convenes the brass bands and second-liners and announces the beginning of the street parade--Puh-PAH puh-PAH.  With those four notes, Simon makes two things clear: 1) this is going to be a show about music, and 2) he's done his research.

WGA Supports Composers, Lyricists

Last week's Writers Guild of America endorsement of film and TV composers' attempts to union ize through the Teamsters was a big boost for the musicians. It not only adds the backing of some heavyweight Hollywood names, but it also comes with a good deal of historical precedent. Nearly 20 years ago, the WGA supported the fledgling Society of Composers & Lyricists in its at tempts to re-establish a union for those who pen scores and songs for movies and ...

Wall Street Touts Plans to Bet on Box Office

Wall Street Touts Plans to Bet on Box Office

Source: All About Jazz

Think you're better than Hollywood at gauging whether an upcoming flick will be a box office bomb or a sleeper hit? You'd get a chance to put your money behind that under two proposals that movie studios are denouncing as legalized gambling. The proposals the U.S. Commodity Futures Trading Commission are expected to rule on this month would let movie fans, industry executives and speculators bet on expected box office receipts. Investors profit if their predictions come true and lose ...

Richard Zanuck a Living Film History Time Capsule

Richard Zanuck a Living Film History Time Capsule

Source: Michael Ricci

Growing up with the last name Zanuck in Old Hollywood was just like real life -- only different. As a youngster, Richard D. Zanuck had to sell copies of the Saturday Evening Post to learn the value of hard work. “Of course," Zanuck said with a wink, “my dad did have a chauffeur take me to pick up the papers." And even though Zanuck says he never played “catch on the beach" with his dad, he knew his pop cared ...
