Niels-Henning Oersted Pedersen, one of Denmark's best known jazz musicians, who performed with legends such as Miles Davis, Dexter Gordon and Dizzy Gillespie, has died at age 58.
Oersted Pedersen, the bass player widely known by his initials NHOP and nicknamed The Great Dane," died Tuesday in Copenhagen, leading jazz experts and Danish media said. The cause of death was not immediately known.

ST. LOUIS (AP) -- Johnnie Johnson, a rock 'n' roll pioneer who teamed with Chuck Berry for hits like Roll Over Beethoven" and No Particular Place to Go," died Wednesday. He was 80.
Johnson died at his St. Louis home. The cause of death was not immediately known, said publicist Margo Lewis. He had been hospitalized a month ago with pneumonia and was on dialysis for a kidney ailment, said John May, a friend and fellow musician.

NEW YORK - Bobby Short, the suave, tuxedoed cabaret singer who epitomized Manhattan glamour and sophistication with renderings of the great American songbook, died of leukemia Monday at 80.
