Have Your Promotional Toolkit Ready

It's important to take charge of your own promotion and not assume that anyone else is doing it for you. But doing so requires making sure that you have all the important tools readily available. Post them somewhere that they can be found easily on your web site (for those writers on a 2AM deadline) and store an emailable copy on the computer of everyone on your team. Be sure to include:

MASSIVE THEFT HURTS GREAT INDEPENDENT LABEL

The Budos Band On Monday, February 16, Daptone Records' studio in Brooklyn, NY was broken into and robbed. Unfortunately, lots of valuable equipment was stolen and damaged. Daptone Records is asking for everyone's help in keeping an eye out for the stolen stuff showing up on ebay/craigslist/local music shops, and secondly (and more realistically) keeping an eye out for good deals on headphones, mics, pre-amps, etc.

Only one native speaker of Livonian remains on Earth, in Latvia. The Alaskan language Eyak went extinct last year when its last surviving speaker passed away.

Those are just two of the nearly 2,500 languages that UNESCO says are in danger of becoming extinct or have recently disappeared. That's out of a total of 6,000 world languages.

Some Broadcasters Reach Net Royalty Deal

SoundExchange and the National Association of Broadcasters (NAB) have reached agreement on internet streaming rates for broadcast radio stations that simulcast programming over the net or that create new internet stations.

Under the agreement, rates for simulcasts or web channels operated by local radio stations are reduced 16% in 2009 then gradually increase through 2015 - from $0.0015 per streamed sound recording in 2009 to $0.0025 per stream by 2015.
