New French Chanson: Eight for Matisse: Digital Only, Out August 3

A new generation of French songwriters which grew up on New Wave, Electronica and British pop, has re-discovered the pleasures of writing French chanson. They draw from their cosmopolitan taste and usually update the genre, but they also remain faithful to the tradition of mixing sexy and literate lyrics which was exemplified by Serge Gainsbourg. All five artists on this compilation were invited to perform in New York in ...

One Track Mind: Lou Donaldson "Peepin'" (1967)

Source: Something Else!
August 1, 2010

By Nick Deriso“The Magic Hour" by Louisiana-born trumpeter Wynton Marsalis was that sweetest of swinging homecomings--like time spent laughing with old friends on a front porch.

We have Marsalis returning finally to small-band work--where he once sparked the kind of mainstream interest in a jazz trumpeter enjoyed long ago by the likes of Louis Armstrong and Miles Davis. We have Marsalis again beside music industry veteran Bruce Lundvall, who signed Wynton to his very first record deal in ...
