Jeff Berlin, "High Standards" (CD Review)

Source: Between the Grooves with Philip Booth
August 27, 2010

Virtuoso electric bassist Jeff Berlin is back with one of his strongest jazz releases ever. Jeff is something of a neighbor, as we both live in the Tampa Bay area, and his Players School of Music is located in Clearwater. I've had the chance to become acquainted with Jeff over the years, through a week-long stint at his school, and his participation in my Monk in the Sun CD project of several years ago. Jeff's site is here, and you ...

August 27, 2010

Had he lived, Charlie Parker would have been 90 years old on August 29. In celebration of the alto saxophonist's music and upcoming birthday, I chose a handful of key moments in Parker's recording career and asked Phil Schaap to reflect on them. For those not in the know, Phil is the on-air host of the 27-year-old Bird Flight, a radio show on WKCR in New York that can be heard worldwide here from 8:20 to about 9:40 a.m. (EDT) ...

Further evidence has come in verifying the value of that cache of previously unheard recordings in the Savory Collection at the National Jazz Museum in Harlem.
