Source: Sabrina Gaffney

Is there time to explore and reflect on musical beauty in the frenetic pace of modern life? It's a question vocalist Anne Walsh asks on her latest CD “Go," which was released September 27th on AtoZink Music. “The title sums up my wish to move forward as an artist, and strike out into areas of the musical art-form that I haven't had the opportunity to explore in the past, “ said Walsh. The Art Of The Torch Singer, Piers Ford Reviews Man In The Long Black Coat and Durga Rising

Source: Barb Jungr

There are three elders at the top of the tree when it comes to British female singers who have an instinctive ability to tell the whole story in a song: Norma Waterson, June Tabor and Barb Jungr. Forget any ungallant connotations. I use the word simply to connote wisdom and an almost forensic approach to their craft. Canadian band Clear builds bridge between folk, jazz, and rock

Source: Lauren Rogers

The recent buzz over Canada's indie music scene, taken to dizzying heights with the Grammy coup from the Arcade Fire, has neglected to shed light on the country's jazz offerings. Considering that jazz hasn't stirred the imagination of young music fans in decades, that isn't such a shock. However, Clear might be the band to build a bridge between the graying temples of the jazz crowd and the adventurous tastes of collegiate hipsters. A trio featuring vocalist Sue Johnson, guitarist ...

Taeko Kunishima's New Album "Late Autumn" is out Now on the 33Jazz Label

Source: Michael Ricci

Taeko Kunishima's third album finds the pianist (born in Shizuoka, Japan, now based in London) in a mood both lyrical and risk-taking. These nine original compositions fully display Taeko's way with a melody, but this is jazz with a thoroughly contemporary sound. Opener “To The Hebrides" is a meditative piano solo, quickly followed by the driving riff of “Return To Life": Paul Moylan's powerful double bass and Max Hallett's shoot-from-the-hip drums are united in urgency. Sean Corby's eloquent trumpet switches ...
