Source: Something Else!
May 6, 2012

Pretty much everyone that I knew had and loved the record, and I’m guessing that just about everyone ...

Monking Around with Carmen McRae

Source: JazzINK by Andrea Canter
May 4, 2012

It's not that I am caught up on CD reviews. Far from it. But sometimes I have to stop and listen to something no one sent me. Something I picked up on my own. Last week, I came across a reference to Carmen McRae's Carmen Sings Monk, and ordered it. One of the greatest jazz interpreters of all time singing one of the greatest jazz composers of all time? Recorded in 1988 and released shortly thereafter, some consider this to ...

Source: Something Else!
May 4, 2012

TV Trio, as this record is called, even wound up on my year-end “best of 2009″ list for mainstream and modern jazz, because he brought fresh arrangements to what are really some well-written tunes. By taking these songs out of their original context of just being bumper ...
