Bill Kwan Brings Jazz Concepts To Singer/Songwriter Fare
Source:
G Sib
On Poison & Wine, jazz vocalist Bill Kwan experiments with new sounds and styles, delivering an impeccably curated collection of songs by the some of the most transcendent songwriters of our generation. With lyrics filtered through his own heartbroken lens, he delicately reconstructs the tracks much like a jazz singer interpreting the great classics. A lovelorn rendering of these painful-yet-beautiful songs, Poison & Wine was released on August 17th, and debuted a video for the lead track, “Missing,” last month. ...

Harry Lookofsky: Stringsville
Source:
JazzWax by Marc Myers
I'm not a big jazz violin guy. No matter how you slice it, the instrument reminds me of the guy in the movies who shows up at lovers' tables in restaurants. For me, the jazz violin is too high-pitched, squeaky and relentlessly annoying. Of course, my personal taste takes nothing away from the swing-era violin masters. To be sure, they are technically marvelous. But I find the violin like trying to enjoy something that belongs someplace else. Like watching guys ...

"Tony Adamo and the New York Crew" Reviewed By Ed Kopp Of Jazziz Magazine/Fall Issue
Source:
Jim Eigo, Jazz Promo Services
Reprinted from the Fall 2015 Issue of Jazziz Magazine “Hipspokenword” artist Tony Adamo comes across as a combination of Gil Scott Heron and Maynard G. Krebs—a bohemian wordsmith strongly influenced by Jack Kerouac and the ‘50s beat poets. Adamo’s fifth release features a crack all-star band playing hard bop behind the leader’s ultra-cool monologues, most of which are spoken and a couple, sung. All are laced with terms such as “hip,” “happenin’” and “dig it.” Adamo is like a beatnik ...
