Whit Dickey 2-CD 'Morph' with Matthew Shipp and Nate Wooley on ESP-DISK. Pre-Order Now.

All About Jazz
Whit Dickey has been a quiet but brilliant presence on the New York avant-jazz scene since his discographical debut in 1991 on the legendary Matthew Shipp Trio album Circular Temple. In concert and on recordings in groups led by Shipp, David S. Ware, Ivo Perelman, Joe Morris, and Rob Brown, he built a reputation for distinctively space-filled, subtle rhythmic support, even as he was perfectly capable of muscling up when the music called for it. For some of the people ...

Drummer Brian Andres Debuts New Trio Latino Project On "Mayan Suite," Set For May 15 Release By Bacalao Records
Source:
Terri Hinte Publicity
Drummer Brian Andres unleashes an electrifying new project with the May 15 release of Mayan Suite, the inaugural recording of his Trio Latino, on Bacalao Records. Though it finds Andres stepping back from his longtime leadership of the eight-piece Afro-Cuban Jazz Cartel, the new trio (featuring pianist Christian Tumalan and bassist Aaron Germain) shows itself to be every bit as musically rich as the larger ensemble. What’s more, the album’s striking originals and zesty interpretations find the band equaling that ...

Source:

After 20 years, I finally decided to go ahead and release this exciting album on Bandcamp. It demonstrates Steve Reid extraordinary ability to spontaneously orchestrate within a jazz quartet, his inventiveness and wide range of dynamics, whether in a modal tune, a free-jazz composition or a romantic jazz standard. The bassist Chris Lachotta met Steve Reid in Munich in the spring of 2000, and he introduced Steve to Boris Netsvetaev and Lena Bloch, who had already been playing with Chris ...

NIna Simone: Lost Album, 1982
Source:
JazzWax by Marc Myers
Nina Simone lived in Paris from 1981 to 1983. Like most American artists who take up residence there, the elegance and majesty of the city transforms them. During these years, Simone lived in southern Paris near the Parc Montsouris in the 14th arrondissement, in a small, 260-square foot apartment that was largely empty except for a piano. Parc Montsouris was created by Emperor Napoleon III and is one of the city's largest public green spaces. In the winter of 1982, ...
