Happy Birthday, Charlie Parker: The Complete Savoy and Dial Studio Recordings

Savoy pays homage to the legacy of Charlie Parker with the October 24 release of the highly anticipated 8 CD boxed set, Charlie Parker: The Complete Savoy and Dial Studio Recordings (1944-48). Produced for reissue by the multi-Grammy award winning producer and annotator, Orrin Keepnews, the box contains all of the studio sides, including alternate takes from both Savoy and Dial Records. States Keepnews, “these are arguably the definitive works by the definitive innovator of modern jazz."

Charlie Parker would be 80 years old this Tuesday, August 29. This weekend, the 8th Annual Charlie Parker Jazz Festival pays tribute to the recent passings of Doris Parker and Milt Jackson, as well as acknowledging the Louis Armstrong centennial. Performers will include Irene Reid, Norman Simmons, Miles Griffith, Sphere and the James Moody Quartet featuring special guest Jon Faddis. It runs 2-7 PM in New York's East Village, Saturday in Marcus Garvey Park, and follows with Tompkins Square Park on Sunday during the same hours, rain or shine.
