In October of each year Great Women In Music presents a month long music festival featuring the sounds of Blues and Jazz. This years festivities are sponsored by Marriott, Time Square Entertainment and The Harlem Brewing Company.
Great Women In Music 2002 is a grand celebration of the many contributions women have made to music. This event is inclusive of some of the finest women and men musicians in the world. Each year the festival features legendary as well as up-and-coming artists of music, dance and the spoken word. The festival also offers several workshops and seminars pertaining to the business of music.
Great Women In Music is a along awaited concept, this years festival will feature such stellar artist as Carmen Lundy and Blues Diva Sweet Georgia Brown. The festival will also present a special tribute to Etta Jones featuring Irene Reid, Trudy Pitts and Della Griffin. There are over 10 different venues through out New York City hosting this years event, the list of venues include B.B. Kings, Smoke, Terra Blues and Flute.
Highlights
In 1999 a music series where women would be celebrated for the many contributions they have made to the history of music was born. This nine-day event sponsored by Ashley Stewart L.T.D. featuring Etta Jones and Melba Moore laid the foundation for what would later become the Great Women in Music annual festival.
