Jazz and Chichester

Adrian Kendon and the jazz teaching team at Chichester College have re-designed and expanded the jazz courses on offer at Chichester College. A jazz course has been running at Chichester College for over twenty-five years but from September 2001 students will be able to elect to study at four different levels. We will be offering Foundation, Intermediate and Advanced Diplomas in Jazz Studies in addition to our Higher National Diploma in Jazz Studies (offered in partnership with Chichester University College).

Students are attracted to study jazz at Chichester from all over the country and many come from overseas too. They come in all varieties with an equal mix of women and men and all ages from 16 to 72. With a total of 60 students, the jazz department forms the largest group of students in the Music School, which also offers qualifications in Classical Music, Popular Music, Musical Theatre, Computer Music Technology and Sound Recording Technology.

Chichester College is the only further education college in the UK which offers this range of courses for jazz students and most students come here in preparation for studying a jazz or music degree at a British university.

Chichester is a lovely cathedral city with a history going back to Roman times. It is set in beautiful countryside near the sea and it is a perfect centre for outdoor activities from bird-watching to hang-gliding and pretty much anything else you like to think of. There are lively pubs and clubs and London and Brighton are easily reached by train or car.
