The First Six Cuts are Now Available For Free, Online!
Trumpeter, composer, Nick Drozdoff, is in the process of completing his next CD, “Hydronium" for MP3.COM. It is in the idiom of ACID JAZZ and features the high tech loops from Sonic Foundry mixed with trumpets, flugelhorns and piccolo trumpets.

This is not traditional jazz of straight ahead jazz, by any means. It is Drozdoff's attempt at something newer as a trumpeter trying to survive in an increasingly technological world. While Drozdff is a busy jazz and lead trumpeter in the Chicago area, it his feeling that more traditional idioms have been so well covered by other players (Art Davis or Orbert Davis in Chciago, for example), that something a bit more different might merit some experimentation.
An additional influence for this new music has been Drozdoff's involvement with an after school club at New Trier High School, where Drodoff teaches physics as his day gig. He is the sponsor for the Experimental Music Club. The free-thinking teenagers of NTHS have had as much influence on him as he has had on them. These kids are studying (not just listening) to everyone from Morton Feldman to John Cage to Terry Riley. Meetings have covered everything from minimalism to concrete composition to random structures. Drozdoff has been experimenting with his own compositions using the ideas brought to the meetings by the students. An example of this is “Small Voice" which can be heard at the same site. “Small Voice" is on the CD “New Stuff".
Nick Drozdoff's mp3.com site is gradually approaching a milestone. He is on the verge of getting his first 250,000 playbacks or downloads. On the scale of Britaney Spears of In Sync, this is nothing, but for a chicago area independent musician composing and recording all of his own music by himself in hs tiny basement studio, this is indeed some great progress.
