Although the du Maurier Downtown Jazz festival does not officially start until June 20th Downtown Jazz begins celebrating early with a concert by Dianne Reeves, sponsored by TD Canada Trust. She is one of the most important female jazz vocalists emerging from the legacies left by such notables as Sarah Vaughan, Ella Fitzgerald and Carmen McRae.
In 2002, Dianne released her ninth Blue Note (11th overall) recording, The Calling: Celebrating Sarah Vaughan and credits the legendary Ms. Vaughan as inspiration in her pursuit of the art of singing. As she puts it,
