While other trumpeters in the Jazz world have received far more commercial and widespread acclaim, MANNY DURAN has quietly carved out a career that is continuously respected by his musical peers and fans alike and has acheived a cult status in both the Jazz and Afro-Cuban Jazz genres. Duran's first “Latin" gig happened in 1957 with the Puertorican musical giant NORO MORALES. Following that dubious honor, he continued with other notable figures such as MACHITO, WILLIE BOBO, VLADIMIR VASILIEFF, RAY BARRETO and MARIO BAUZA'S AFRO-CUBAN JAZZ ORCHESTRA, to name a few. Aside from his associations with many of the legends in Afro-Cuban music, he has also taken part in many recordings with the legends of Jazz. Among them, jazz trumpet legend DIZZY GILLESPIE. AFRO-BOP is the current group he leads today. A musical concept that stresses the upmost in improvisation & excellence. Since the dawn of Cu-Bop, the modern marriage between Jazz and Latin rhythms continues to this very day thanks to the continuous efforts of The Masters of the genre. Masters such as Manny Duran.

Trumpeter MANNY DURAN, will be debuting his own Afro-Cuban Jazz septet known as AFRO-BOP on Wednesday January 22nd, 2003 starting at 9pm.

This debut performance will be held at the new home for Latin Jazz in New York, THE ARKA LOUNGE....
