Coleman Barks to Read Rumi in Philadelphia
Hamza El-Din, one of the patron saints of modern World Music, will perform in Philadelphia for the first time on Friday December 7 and Saturday December 8 in the Harrison Auditorium at the University of Pennsylvania Museum, 33rd and Spruce Street at 7:30 PM.
Hamza will give a haunting performance on the oud, an ancient and mystical sounding string instrument, and the tar, or frame drum, known throughout Northern Africa and the vast Central Asian region. He'll also be heard as a special guest on Saturday, December 8, with Coleman Barks in a mixed media performance of poetry and music.
Reknowned Indian musicians Deepak Kumar (vocals and harmonium), and Naren Budhkar (tabla drums) will open Friday
