The Chihiro Yamanaka Trio will perform April 24, 2011 at the Blue Note in New York City. Appearing with Chihiro, a brilliant jazz pianist/composer/arranger, will be bassist Yasushi Nakamura and drummer Pete Van Nostrand. For this Sunday brunch engagement, audiences have a choice of attending either of two sets, at 12:30 PM and 2:30 PM. The Blue Note is at 131 W. 3rd St. in Manhattan. Reservations may be made on the Blue Note's website or by phone (212-475-8592.) The admission charge of $24.50 includes the music and brunch charges.

Chihiro Yamanaka's latest CD, “Forever Begins" (Universal/Decca), is her U.S. major label debut, set for release on May 3, 2011. “Forever Begins" was first released in Japan (on Universal/Verve) in the fall of 2010, where it quickly ascended to #1 on the jazz charts. In April, 2011, it was released in Europe on Universal's EmArcy imprint. The CD features bassist Ben Williams and drummer Kendrick Scott.

Upcoming performances by the Chihiro Yamanaka Trio celebrating the release of the CD include June 22 at Regattabar (Boston), June 30 at Iridium (New York City), and July 9 at the Umbria Jazz Festival (Perugia, Italy.) At the Umbria festival, Chihiro's group will open for “Tribute to Miles," featuring Herbie Hancock, Wayne Shorter and Marcus Miller.

Based in New York City, Chihiro Yamanaka is poised to extend her series of successes in Japan (ten CDs, including seven on Universal/Verve, with each of her CDs reaching the #1 spot on the Japanese jazz charts) to the U.S. and Europe.

Swing Journal Magazine gave Chihiro the “Best New Artist" award in 2005, and her 2009 CD, “After Hours," won the “Japan Gold Disc Award" as the best-selling jazz disc of the year. Chihiro's 2007 CD, “Abyss," won “Album of The Year" in the Swing Journal Magazine Readers' Poll.

Chihiro's concerts and recordings include her strikingly original compositions and her unique arrangements of many of the most famous songs in the standard jazz repertoire. Jazz Life Magazine called Chihiro “one of the greatest talents in jazz for decades," and jazz legend George Russell has hailed her as “a very gifted and imaginative musician."

Chihiro Yamanaka is represented in the U.S. by Scott Foster Management.
