Operator worked on Fugitive, Batman Forever

Steadicam operator-cameraman Robert Ulland died Feb. 15 in an accident on his boat in Florida. He was 58. The accident was likely related to his lifelong battle with diabetes.

Ulland's work was seen in films including The Fugitive, Batman Forever, The Horse Whisperer, What Women Want, Domestic Disturbance, and The Guardian. In television, he worked on The West Wing, which was noted for its Steadicam sequences. He was considered one of the pioneers in Steadicam work, with 22 years of experience.

Bobby Ulland was a truly sweet, kind and talented artist who gave his own tremendous brand of energy and focus to his work. His easy going positive attitude helped get the hard work done. His contributions to our many films together were extremely significant. On The Fugitive in a frigid Chicago, on Holes in the sweltering windswept California desert, and The Guardian in an icy Louisiana water tank sea, Bobby worked tirelessly hefting , then dancing with that heavy steadicam rig or riding an elevated crane and working out shots with me. Bobby will be greatly missed.
