Branford Marsalis, Jane Monheit guest on Jazz After Hours (PRI)

Branford Marsalis is currently on tour with his quartet - Joey Calderazzo, Eric Revis and Jeff “Tain" Watts. The quartet is in Seattle at Jazz Alley through Saturday night and he came by our studio for a visit on Thursday. He was very expansive, talking about the quartet and his development as an improvising musician. He's quite direct in his comments about the music business and has some good comments about how one learns to play this music. He's quite at home and comfortable with the music he plays and isn't that concerned about what sells..... he's in it for the music.

We talked about an hour.... had a lot of laughs and he made some serious points as well. After editing we'll have an hour of music and talk, about 50/50. It'll be on Jazz After Hours on PRI this Friday night/ Saturday morning depending on your time zone - 11 pm PDT, or 2 a.m. EDT (is that 8 am Greenwich?)

Young singer-on-the-rise Jane Monheit will be guest the following night - Saturday night/ Sunday morning. She's a charming guest with a lovely voice.

A complete list of 70 stations carrying Jazz After Hours is on our website and if you're not within earshot of one of these, you can hear it on the internet at wamc.org, wcpn.org, or kplu.org
