BEFORE NIGHT FALLS SOUNDTRACK TO BE RELEASED FEBRUARY 27th, 2001
On Tuesday, February 27th, 2001, Blue Thumb Records will release the soundtrack to the acclaimed film Before Night Falls. The CD features many renowned artists from several decades of Cuban music.
Winner of the Grand Jury Prize at the 2000 Venice Film Festival, Before Night Falls is a journey into the life and writings of Cuban author and exile Reinaldo Arenas. The Fine Line Features film was directed and co-written by Julian Schnabel.
The collection, which spans music from Cuba's pre- and post-revolutionary periods, beings with El Tumbaito" from Faustino Oramas (better known as El Guayabero); the song showcases the composer's trademark use of double entendres. Trio Matamoros' El Que Siembra Su Maiz" follows; the popular 1930s and 1940s group, featuring the great songwriter Miguel Matamoros, is also represented here by the song Tu Ver
