AVISHAI COHEN QUINTET TO PLAY CATALINA BAR & GRILL - MARCH 29, 2001

“On his third release, bassist Avishai Cohen mines a broad expanse of musical terrain and emerges with a transcultural gem." - Larry Blumenfeld, JAZZIZ

“Avishai Cohen, the gifted Israeli native who lives in New York, is a jazz visionary of global proportions." - Zan Stewart, Down Beat

“Bassist Avishai Cohen is one of the early arrivals in a generation of jazz players whose musical visions reach beyond the familiar American jazz arena...." - Don Heckman, LA Times

“From the individual contributions of his sidemen to the overall presentation, this was one of the most rewarding jazz performances of the year. ... The willingness of all six players to downplay grandstanding in favor of the overall result produced one of the freshest sounds in memory." - Bob Blumenthal, The Boston Globe

“Mr. Cohen...puts the bass up front, making melodies ring and squeezing all the juice out of a single tune by spitting it out in 16th notes. He has the rich, deep sound to get away with such swashbuckling moments, and the album is a self-possessed notice of arrival." Ben Ratliff, The New York Times
