AVISHAI COHEN & the INTERNATIONAL VAMP BAND AT THE JAZZ GALLERY NOVEMBER 14TH

Avishai Cohen and the International Vamp Band's last NYC performance this year will be at The Jazz Gallery, 290 Hudson Street, 212-242-1063, on Wednesday, November 14th; 9:00 pm & 10:30 pm sets; admission: $10. The band features Avishai Cohen - piano, Yagil Baras - bass, Diego Urcola - trumpet, Avi Leibovich - trombone, Yosvany Terry - sax and chekere and Eric Mcpherson - drums.
Uniting musicians from four different countries - Israel, Cuba, Argentina and the U.S. - Avishai Cohen & The International Vamp Band merge kaleidoscopic rhythms and global musical cultures into an incendiary musical vision. Best-known as the acoustic bassist from Chick Corea's Origin and New Trio groups, Cohen chooses his first instrument, the piano, as his primary vehicle of expression for The International Vamp Band.
After two sold out sets at The Blue Note in August to celebrate the release of his new CD, Avishai Cohen and The International Vamp Band - Unity (Stretch/Concord), Cohen & company took to the road, touring the west coast and midwest playing in jazz and world music venues and sparking an enthusiastic response from new and established fans. The band is currently touring the east coast, which includes their last NYC gig of the year at the Jazz Gallery. They leave for Europe the next day - November 15th, and Central and South America will get their turn when the band comes through in 2002.
